- Most of the old walls of Korea’s villages were destroyed during the New Village Movement of the 1970s, which sought to modernize rural communities. There are around 20 remaining old walls that have been registered or designated as cultural heritages. The old walls of Bangyo Village are the only stone walls in the Chungcheong region to be registered as a cultural heritage.
