Makgeolli (rice wine) and soju produced in Gwangju have long been part of local daily life, brewed in regional breweries. Gwangju Mudeungsan Takju is a leading brand, offering a range of products including Mudeungsan Makgeolli. Bia Makgeolli, brewed at Bia Brewery, is also popular for its distinctive flavor. Bohae Brewery, a major distillery in the region, produces Bohae Soju, Yipseju, and Matchsoon, helping shape Gwangju’s identity in the Korean liquor industry. In recent years, Yipseju has gained attention among younger generations through its association with singer Song Ga-in (1986- ).
