경산 신한리 근대가옥의 사랑채는 정면 3칸, 측면 3칸 규모로, 마루가 중앙에 놓이는 일반적인 한옥과 달리 좌측에 마루를 두고 우측 2칸을 방으로 구성한 평면을 이룬다. 전체적으로는 전통 한옥의 모습을 따르고 있으나, 측면에 합각지붕을 가진 현관부를 두어 이를 주출입구로 삼고, 이로 인해 건물의 단변이 정면으로 인식되는 특징을 보인다.

이러한 구성은 장변이 정면으로 인식되는 전통 한옥의 일반적인 출입 방식과는 다른 것으로, 근대기 일본식 건축의 영향이 반영된 사례로 평가된다.

Men’s Quarters

The men’s quarters of this house measures three bays in width and three bays in depth. Unlike typical traditional Korean houses, where a wooden-floored hall is usually centered, this building places the hall on the left, with the remaining two bays on the right forming a room. While its overall structure follows traditional Korean architecture, a gabled entrance porch was added to the left side to serve as the main entrance. As a result, the shorter side of the building is perceived as the primary facade. This arrangement differs from the conventional layout of traditional Korean houses, where the longer side is recognized as the front, and reflects the influence of Japanese architecture during the early 20th century.
