암막새

Definition

암키와에 막새가 연결된 기와로 지붕의 기왓골 맨 끝에 얹어서 눈과 빗물이 쉽게 떨어지도록 한다. 막새 부분에는 연화, 당초, 보상화문, 범문자, 귀목, 귀면, 문자, 박쥐 등 각종 문양이 있는데 덩굴풀을 의장화한 당초무늬[唐草文]가 주로 사용되고 있다. 당초와(唐草瓦)·여막사(女莫斯)라고 부르기도 한다.
