이곳은 홍주읍성 북동측 성곽 주변에서 확인된 함정 유구이다.

함정은 땅을 판 후 내부에 뾰족한 말뚝을 설치하여 적의 접근을 막기 위한 방어시설이다. 이 함정 유구는 방사선탄소연대 측정 결과, 15세기 중·후반 조성된 것으로 추정한다. 홍주읍성 북동측 성곽 주변에는 성벽과 자연 해자 사이에서 원형 또는 타원형의 함정 유구 15기가 확인되었다. 이러한 유구는 당시 성곽의 방어 체계를 보여주는 중요한 자료이다.

Pit Trap Features of Hongjueupseong Walled Town

Between the northeastern wall of Hongjueupseong Walled Town and the natural moat, fifteen pit trap features of circular or oval form were identified. Made by digging holes into the ground and placing sharpened stakes inside, these pits were a defensive installation designed to impede enemy approach. Radiocarbon dating indicates the pits were constructed in the mid-to-late 15th century, making them an important resource for understanding the defensive system of the walled town at that time.
