해설문

국문

이 불상은 바로 앉아서 정면을 바라보고 있는 높이 86cm의 약사여래불상이다. 불상의 전체적인 형태는 살찐 모습이며, 대좌는 없고 주형광배(舟形光背)는 불상과 비례가 맞지 않아 별도로 만들어진 것으로 생각된다. 왼손에 약상자를 들고 있어 약사여래임을 명확히 나타내었다. 오른손은 왼쪽 발바닥에 얹어 항마촉지인을 하고 있다. 앉은 형태는 결가부좌인데 일반적인 형태와는 달리 왼쪽다리가 바깥쪽으로 포개져 있어 특이하다. 머리·어깨의 모양과 옷의 무늬로 보아 고려 중기에 제작된 것으로 추정된다.

영문

This statue is presumed to have been made in the middle period of the Goryeo Dynasty (918-1392). The medicine bowl in the left hand indicates that it is a statue of Bhaisajyaguru, the Medicine Buddha. He is believed to possess the power to heal illness and physical defects. He sits with his legs crossed without a pedestal. The almond-shaped mandorla, the radiance surrounding the body, is out of proportion to the Buddha, suggesting that it was made separately. The height of this statue is 86 cm.
