해설문

키 8.5m, 가슴높이의 둘레 4.5m에 이르며 나이는 약 700년 가량으로 추정된다.

현재 생육상태는 양호한 편이다.

음나무는 두릅나무과에 속하는 낙엽활엽교목으로 흔히 엄나무라 불린다.

우리나라의 전국에서 자생하고 있고, 꽃은 황록색으로 6,7월에 피며, 열매는 10월에 검게 익는다.

어린줄기에는 크고 단단한 가시가 많아서 옛날부터 귀신을 쫓는 나무라는 속설도 있으나 오래된 줄기에는 가시가 없는 것이 특징이다.

나무의 결이 거칠고 무거우며, 광택은 아름다우나 갈라지기 쉽다.

새로 나온 순은 많이 자라기 전에 채취하여 식용으로 쓰이며, 나무껍질은 한방에서 약재로 이용한다.

This castor aralia tree is about 700 years old.

The deciduous tree is native to and grows throughout the Korean peninsula.

It has broad, palm-shaped leaves and light yellowish-green flowers in June or July, bearing pods of seeds that ripen to black in October.

Its fresh sprouts are edible and its bark is used for medicine.

Because of its tough thorns, the tree branches have traditionally been used to ward off evil spirits in shamanistic rituals.

The height of this tree is 8.5 m and its circumference is 4.5 m when measured at chest level.
