해설문

국문

쌍계사 상록수림은 첨찰산 산기슭에 자리한 쌍계사와 운림산방을 감싸며 형성된 숲이다.

진도 쌍계사의 상록수림은 우리나라의 대표적인 상록수림들 중의 하나로서 자연 그대로의 상태를 잘 유지하고 있으므로 학술적 가치가 높아 천연기념물로 지정·보호하고 있다.

상록수림을 구성하고 있는 나무 중 상록수로는 동백나무, 후박나무, 참가시나무, 감탕나무, 종가시나무, 생달나무, 모새나무, 참식나무, 차나무, 자금우, 광나무, 붉가시나무, 모밀잣밤나무 등이 있고, 덩굴식물로는 마삭줄, 멀꿀 및 모람 등이 있다. 이 밖에도 졸참나무, 자귀나무, 느릅나무, 말오줌때, 쥐똥나무, 실거리나무, 조록싸리, 삼색싸리, 소사나무, 갈매나무, 윤노리나무, 굴피나무 및 예덕나무 등의 낙엽활엽수가 섞여 있다.

Evergreen Forest of Ssanggyesa Temple, Jindo

This evergreen forest, located on the slope of Cheomchalsan Mountain, surrounds Ssanggyesa Temple and Ullimsanbang Villa and Garden. It is one of the representative evergreen forests of the southern Korean Peninsula. It has been well maintained in its natural state and is therefore of high academic value.

The forest includes evergreens such as common camellia, machilus, willow-leaf evergreen oak, mochi tree, ring-cup oak, Japanese cinnamon, sea blueberry, sericeous newlitsea, tea tree, marlberry, wax-leaf privet, red-wood evergreen oak, and Japanese chinquapin. It also includes vines such as Asian jasmine, stauntonia vine, and Oriental vining fig, as well as deciduous trees such as Konara oak, silk tree, Wilson’s elm, Korean sweetheart tree, border privet, Mysore thorn, Korean lespedeza, three-color Korean lespedeza, Turczaninow hornbeam, Dahurian buckthorn, Oriental photinia, cone-fruit platycarya, and East Asian mallotus.
