국문

서귀포시 대정읍 상모리와 안덕면 사계리 해안 일대 퇴적층(하모리층) 내에는 사람발자국을 비롯해, 동물발자국 등 다양한 화석이 다량 분포하고있다.

사람발자국 화석의 길이는 120~260mm, 폭은 60~90mm이며, 뚜렷한 보행열을 보인다. 동물발자국 화석 중에는 우제류인 사슴발자국과 새발자국도 관찰되며, 새발자국은 물갈퀴가 보이는 특징을 가지고 있다. 이 발자국들은 제주도에 살았던 사람들과 해안가에 서식했던 생물들의 종류와 서식환경을 알려주는 중요한 자료로서 문화재로 지정되어 보존되고 있다.

Tracksite of Humans and Animals, Jeju

This tracksite, distributed over the sedimentary structure stretching along the coast of Sangmo-ri and Sagye-ri Villages, consists of various fossils, including human and animal footprints.

The human footprints discovered at this site have clearly visible walking directions. The size of the footprints ranges from 120 to 260 mm in length and 60 to 90 mm in width. Animal footprints were identified as belonging to various birds, elephants, and deer. Some of the tracks were left by birds with webbed feet. The site provides important information about the lifestyle of people and the varieties of animals that inhabited the island.

서귀포시 대정읍 상모리와 안덕면 사계리 해안 일대 퇴적층에는 사람발자국을 비롯해, 동물발자국 등 다양한 화석이 다량 분포하고 있다.
