해설문

국문

화강암으로 된 사다리꼴 모양의 지주이다. 긴 깃대가 흔들리지 않도록 지탱해주는 지지대를 기간지주라고 한다. 김유신장군이 백제를 치기 위하여 대군을 주둔시킬 때 기를 달기 위하여 세운 것이라 한다.

원래 이런 기둥이 두 개 있어야 하는데, 지금은 한 기둥만 남아있다. 위로 갈수록 조금씩 좁아지는 사다리꼴이며, 지주의 네 모서리에는 희미하나마 모죽임이 남아있다. 지주의 안쪽 면 상부에는 깃대를 걸쳤던 긴 홈이 있다.

영문

Flagpole Support of Kim Yu-sin (Presumed)

This flagpole support is said to have been used by Kim Yu-sin (595-673), the most well-known general of the Silla kingdom (57 BCE–935 CE), to hoist a flag when he stationed troops at the nearby fortress in preparation of an attack of the neighboring Baekje kingdom (18 BCE-660 CE). There would have originally been two supports, but only one remains. The support is made of granite and has a trapezoidal shape. In the center, there is a long hole where the flagpole would have been inserted.
