해설문
국문
일제강점기에 지은 건물로 1층은 상가, 2층은 주택이다. 1954년 익산의 대표적 기업인 ㈜쌍방울 창업주 이봉녕과 이창녕 형제가 ‘형제상회’를 개업한 곳이기도 하다. 이 건물은 구조와 외관, 평면이 당시 상가주택의 특징을 잘 간직하고 있다. 지역을 대표하는 기업의 모태가 된 곳으로 산업사적 측면에서도 의미가 있는 곳이다.

Modern Commercial Residential Building No. 2 of Pyeongdong-ro, Iksan
This building was constructed during the Japanese colonial period (1910-1945). Currently, its bottom floor houses a store, while the upper floor serves as a residential space.
In 1954, the wholesale sock store Brothers Co. opened its doors for the first time in this building. Brothers Co. eventually became the underwear manufacturer SBW Inc., known today as Iksan’s representative company.
The building’s structure, exterior, and layout are well-preserved and demonstrate the characteristic features of the early mixed-use buildings combining commercial and residential space. And as the place of birth of Iksan’s most representative company, the building also holds great value in the region’s industrial history.
영문 해설 내용
이 건물은 일제강점기에 지어졌으며, 현재 1층은 상가, 2층은 주택으로 이용되고 있다.
이곳은 1954년 양말 도매상인 ‘형제상회’가 개업한 곳이다. 형제상회는 이후 내의 전문 제조업체인 쌍방울로 발전하였으며, 쌍방울은 익산을 대표하는 기업으로 여겨진다.
건물 구조, 외관, 평면이 당시 상가주택의 특징을 잘 간직하고 있으며, 지역을 대표하는 기업의 모태가 된 곳으로 산업사적 측면에서도 의미가 있는 곳이다.
