해설문

국문

이 비는 조선 영조 49년(1773)에 전라좌수사로 부임하여 선정을 베푼 김영수(金永綬)를 기려 정조 3년(1779)에 세운 사적비이다.

제명은 ‘호좌수영수성창설사적비(湖左水營守城創設事蹟碑)’라 적혀 있고, 비문에는 김영수가 전라좌수영 토병과 의승군의 도움으로 성을 크게 개축하는 한편, 군사를 정비하고 각종 군기를 갖추어 놓았으며, 조정에서 전라좌수영에 부과한 조세를 미리 마련하는 등 치적을 쌓은 내용이 기록되어 있다.

당시 전라좌수영의 군사 조직과 시설 및 운영에 관한 상황을 엿볼 수 있는 자료이다.

영문

Stele of Kim Yeong-su

This stele was erected in 1779 to commemorate the achievements of Kim Yeong-su (1716-1786), who was appointed in 1773 as navy commander of East Jeolla-do Province.

During his service as provincial navy commander, Kim Yeong-su oversaw a large-scale reconstruction of the navy headquarters’ fortress, trained the troops, and equipped them with the necessary arms and weapons. He also made sure that the tax imposed on the headquarters by the central government was not collected from the local peasants.

The stele consists of a pedestal, a body stone, and a capstone. The stele’s inscription records Kim Yeong-su’s achievements and provides valuable information about the structure, facilities, and administration of the navy headquarters at the time.

영문 해설 내용

이 비석은 1773년 전라좌도 수군절도사로 부임한 김영수(1716-1786)의 공적을 기리기 위해 1779년에 세워졌다.

김영수는 전라좌수영성을 크게 다시 짓고, 군사를 정비하였으며, 군대에서 사용할 각종 무기와 도구들을 갖추어 놓았다. 또한 조정에서 전라좌수영에 부과한 조세를 백성에게서 거두지 않고 마련하기도 하였다.

비석은 받침돌, 몸돌, 머릿돌로 이루어져 있다. 비문에는 김영수의 공적이 기록되어 있으며, 전라좌수영의 군사 조직, 시설 및 운영에 관한 상황을 엿볼 수 있는 자료가 된다.
