해설문
국문
전교당은 도산서원의 강당으로 1574년에 세웠다. 강당은 유생들이 경학을 공부하는 서원의 중심 건물이다.
전교당은 대청과 서쪽에 한존재(閑存齋)라는 온돌방이 있다. 도산서원의 원장이 머물렀던 한존재의 문을 들어 올리면 대청까지 트인 넓은 공간이 확보된다. 정면에 걸린 ‘도산서원(陶山書院)’ 현판은 1575년 선조(1567~1608 재위)가 내려주었으며, 글씨는 한석봉이 썼다.
전교당 서쪽 계단 옆에는 높게 만든 돌기둥 위에 반원 모양의 돌을 받쳐놓았는데, 이것은 밤에 행사할 때 불을 밝히던 정료대(庭燎臺)이다. 전교당 동쪽 뒤편 높은곳에 사당인 상덕사(尙德祠)가 있다.
영문
Jeongyodang Lecture Hall of Dosanseowon Confucian Academy, Andong
This is the main lecture hall of Dosanseowon Confucian Academy. It was built in 1574 and consists of a wooden-floored hall on the right and an underfloor-heated room on the left. Between the hall and the room are liftable doors that allow the spaces to be opened into a single large room when necessary. The white wooden plaque hanging at the front bears the name of this Confucian academy. It was bestowed by King Seonjo (r. 1567-1608) in 1575 and was calligraphed by the renowned calligrapher Han Ho (1543-1605).
In front of the tall foundation are a pair of stairs, and the structure to the left of the stairs is a stone lamp. The small gate to the right of this building leads to the shrine.
