국문

김종우 가옥은 18세기 중엽에 건립되었으며, 현 소유자의 할아버지 때부터 이 곳에서 살아오고 있다. 가옥은 팔작지붕의 겹집 형태이며 안채, 행랑채, 부속창고로 구성되어 있다.

집의 본채인 안채는 온돌 중심의 겹집에 마루가 도입된 ‘ㄱ’자 형태이다. 평면 배치는 오른쪽에 부엌이 있고 앞쪽에는 마루 2칸과 사랑방이 있다. 뒷쪽에는 안방, 뒷방, 뒷사랑방이 있다. 부엌에 이어진 외양간은 본채 지붕과 같은 높이로 1칸 돌출되어 있으며, 상부는 저장 공간으로 사용하고 있다. 부엌에 외양간이 이어져있는 돌출된 구조는 추운 겨울에 집안에서 소를 키우기 위한 것으로, 이 지방의 전통민가 형식이다.

Kim Jong-u’s House, Sokcho

This house was built in the mid-18th century by Kim Jong-u. The family of the current owner has lived here for three generations.

The house consists of a main quarters, a servants quarters, and an auxiliary storehouse. The interior rooms of the main quarters are arranged in two rows and are entirely enclosed in one building, which is the typical layout of traditional houses in Korea's mountainous areas. This layout provides ideal protection from snow and wild animals, enabling the inhabitants to carry on with their daily routine without needing to step outside the house.

The front row of rooms, from left to right, consists of a wide wooden-floored hall and the main men's underfloor-heated room. The rear row of rooms consists of three underfloor-heated rooms, namely the main women's room, the secondary women's room, and the secondary men's room. The kitchen is located in the rear right, and the protruding wing on the front right of the building is the stable. The walls of the stable are made of wood planks, and an attic is installed above the stable to be used for storage.
