This is a ritual house for the preparation of ceremonial rituals and maintenance of the tomb of Kim Dam (1416-1464), a civil official of the early Joseon period. After passing the state examination in 1435, he served various government posts including magistrate of Gyeongju and minister of personnel. Kim Dam was also the most distinguished astronomer, achieving great advances in astronomy during the reign of King Sejong (r. 1506-1544). Following a royal order, he compiled Korea’s first books on the calendar system.

The basic floor plan of this house is a square shape, which was typical in the northern part of the Gyeongsangbuk-do area, and the left section of this house was built with two floors. In particular, this house has rare traditional features which have been well-preserved, such as a corner fireplace and a clay oil lampstand.
