문경 옥소고는 조선 후기에 활동한 옥소 권섭(玉所 權燮)의 작품들을 정리한 문집이다. 권섭은 당시 노론 가문에서 태어나 권력층으로서 학문 및 예술 등을 경험할 수 있었다. 옥소고는 권섭이 누렸던 당대 최고 수준의 문화적 체험을 글로 남겨 놓은 방대한 기록이다. 이는 18세기 조선에서 사회, 문화, 예술의 중요한 변화를 주도한 노론의 관점에서, 당시 사회상을 살펴볼 수 있는 중요한 자료이다. 현재는 옛길박물관에서 보관하고 있다.

Oksogo (Writings of Gwon Seop), Mungyeong

The Writings of Gwon Seop is the collection of the literary works of the scholar Gwon Seop (1671-1759, pen name: Okso). Gwon Seop was from an upper-class nobleman’s family, but he never pursued official government posts and instead devoted himself to his studies and writings. The collection consists of about 6,000 poems in Classical Chinese, as well as prose, poems written in Hangeul, records of enjoying nature, and paintings. The collection is valuable in the understanding of the society, culture, and art of the early 18th century during the Joseon period (1392-1910).

영문 해설 내용

『옥소고』는 조선시대의 학자 권섭(1671-1759, 호: 옥소)의 문집이다. 권섭은 명문 사대부 가문의 출신으로, 평생 관직에 나아가지 않고 학문과 문학작품 창작에 전념하였다. 『옥소고』는 6,000여 수의 한시를 비롯하여, 산문, 국문시, 산수 유람록, 그림 등으로 이루어져 있다. 이는 18세기 조선의 사회, 문화, 예술상을 살펴볼 수 있는 중요한 자료이다.
