해설문

국문

『예수시왕생칠재의찬요(預修十王生七齊儀纂要)』는 1576년(선조 9) 조선시대 승려 대우(大愚)가 지은 불교의례서이다. 예수재(豫修齋)란 사후에 저승에 가서 시왕을 만나 받을 심판에 대비해 미리 지내는 의식으로 우리나라 사찰에서 3년마다 돌아오는 윤달에 행하고 있다.

바라밀선원『예수시왕생칠재의찬요』는 17세기 조선불교계에서 많이 발간된 책 중 하나로, 1권 1책이 보관되어 있다. 조선중기 불교의식 중 하나인 예수재 연구에 중요한 자료이다.

Yesu siwang saengchiljae uichanyo (Essence of the Precursory Ritual to the Ten Underworld Kings) of Baramilseonwon Temple, Gimhae

The Essence of the Precursory Ritual to the Ten Underworld Kings was compiled in 1576 by the Buddhist monk Daeu as a manual to the Precursory Ritual (Yesujae). This ritual is performed while still alive in order to ensure one’s rebirth in the Western Paradise and serves as preparation for one’s judgment by the Ten Underworld Kings in the realm of the dead.

This copy of the Essence of the Precursory Ritual to the Ten Underworld Kings kept at Baramilseonwon Temple was printed in 1632 with woodblocks carved at Suamsa Temple in today’s Cheongdo, Gyeongsangbuk-do. The period of publication is known, and the book contains a list of those who participated in the publication, which sheds light on the circumstances surrounding Buddhist book printing at the time.

영문 해설 내용

『예수시왕생칠재의찬요』는 조선시대 승려 대우가 불교 의례인 예수재의 절차를 기록하여 1576년에 편찬하였다. 예수재는 사후에 저승에 가서 시왕을 만나 받을 심판에 대비하여, 미리 공덕을 쌓기 위해 지내는 의식이다.

바라밀선원이 소장한 『예수시왕생칠재의찬요』는 1632년 오늘날의 경상북도 청도 수암사에서 새긴 목판으로 간행되었다. 간행 시기가 명확하고 간행에 참여한 명단이 수록되어 있어 당시 불서 간행의 상황을 알 수 있다.
