해설문

국문

『불설예수시왕생칠경(佛說預修十王生七經)』은 죽기 전에 영생을 기원하는 제사를 미리 행함으로써 죽은 후에 명부시왕(冥府十王)*의 심판을 받아 지옥에 떨어지는 것을 면할 수 있게 한다는 공덕을 적은 경전이다.

대법륜사『불설예수시왕생칠경』은 1469년(성종 10) 간경도감 본판의 번각본(飜刻本)**으로 『불설수생경(佛說壽生經)』이 합철되어 있으며, 경판은 송광사에 남아 있다. 1618년(광해군 10)의 간행 기록이 명확하고, 각수와 시주자의 이름과 내용이 확인되며 인쇄 및 보관상태가 양호하다.

Bulseol yesu siwang saengchilgyeong (Sutra of the Buddha’s Teachings on the Precursory Ritual to the Ten Underworld Kings) and Bulseol susaenggyeong (Sutra of the Buddha’s Teachings on Longevity) of Daebeomnyunsa Temple, Gimhae

The Sutra of the Buddha’s Teachings on the Precursory Ritual to the Ten Underworld Kings describes the Precursory Ritual (Yesujae), a ritual to repent and make an offering to the Ten Underworld Kings before death, so that one could be reborn in the Western Paradise. The Sutra of the Buddha’s Teachings on Longevity describes how all people borrow coins of longevity from hell when they are born that they must repay by practicing good deeds.

This book kept at Daebeomnyunsa Temple includes both the Sutra of the Buddha’s Teachings on the Precursory Ritual to the Ten Underworld Kings and the Sutra of the Buddha’s Teachings on Longevity and was printed in 1618 using woodblocks carved the same year based on an edition published by the Directorate of Buddhist Publications in 1469. It records a list of the woodblock carving artisans and the publication patrons, and it has a good printing quality and preservation condition.

영문 해설 내용

『불설예수시왕생칠경』은 생전에 미리 명부 시왕에게 공양하고 참회하는 의식을 행함으로써 사후에 극락왕생할 수 있다는 내용을 담은 경전이다. 『불설수생경』은 사람은 누구나 태어날 때에 생명줄을 이어준 돈인 수생전(壽生錢)을 명부에서 빌렸으므로, 공덕을 쌓아 이를 갚아야한다는 내용이다.

대법륜사가 소장한 이 책은 『불설예수시왕생칠경』과 『불설수생경』이 하나의 책으로 묶여있다. 1469년 간경도감에서 간행한 것을 바탕으로, 1618년에 다시 목판을 새겨 찍어낸 것이다. 목판을 새긴 장인 및 시주자의 명단이 기록되어 있고, 인쇄 및 보관상태가 양호하다.
