해설문

국문

벽도산의 동쪽 능선에 있는 석조불상이다. 배모양의 광배(光背)처럼 다듬은 바위 한쪽 면에 돋을새김으로 불상을 새겼다. 전체적으로 마모가 심해서 세부 표현은 알아보기 어렵다.

머리에는 상투 모양의 머리묶음이 솟아 있으며, 옷은 양 어깨에 걸쳐 가슴에서 무릎까지 반원형의 층단을 이루며 흘러내리고 있다. 발 밑은 깨어져 확인할 수 없으나 대좌(臺座)를 따로 만들지는 않았던 것으로 보인다. 전체적인 조각수법으로 보아 통일신라 이후에 만들어진 것으로 보인다.

영문

Standing Stone Buddha in Byeokdosan Mountain, Gyeongju

This stone statue, located on the east slope of Byeokdosan Mountain, depicts a standing buddha. It is presumed to date to sometime after the Unified Silla period (668-935).

The stone was carved into the shape of a halo surrounding the body. One side of the stone is carved in relief with an image of a buddha. Due to severe erosion, the details of the statue are difficult to see. There is a large protuberance on the top of the head, which symbolizes the buddha’s wisdom. The outer robes drape across both shoulders and fall to the knees with curved folds. It appears that the statue had no pedestal.
