해설문

국문

배모양의 높은 타원형 광배(光背) 앞면에 여래입상을 매우 도드라지게 새겼다. 대좌는 없어졌고 머리와 광배의 윗부분이 없어진 것을 보수하면서 원래의 모습과는 많이 달라진 상태이다.

몸과 옷을 간결하게 도식적으로 표현한 통일신라 하대의 전형적인 형식이다. 광배에는 아무런 무늬도 새기지 않았는데, 광배 뒷면에 3층탑이 조각되어 있고, 이 탑 1층 몸돌에 여래좌상을 새긴 것이 특징이다.

영문

Stone Standing Buddha in Geungye-ri, Gyeongju

This stone statue depicting a standing buddha is presumed to date to the late period of Unified Silla (668-935). The head and upper part of the halo were damaged and later repaired with cement, making it difficult to know the original appearance of these parts.

The body and halo are carved of a single stone. The body and folds of the robes are carved in a concise and formulaic manner. The front of the oval halo features no engraved patterns, but on the back of the halo, there is a carving of a three-story stone pagoda with a seated buddha depicted on its first-story body stone. The statue is missing its pedestal.
