향전

Definition

향전(香篆)은 전서(篆書) 형태의 틀에 찍어 만든 향으로, 절에서 시간을 재기 위하여 쓰였는데 후에는 부처 앞에 향을 피우는 일을 가리키는 용어가 되었다. 글자의 획수에 따라 타는 시간이 다르다. 서유구(徐有榘)의 《임원경제지 이운지(林園經濟志 怡雲志)》에 향전에 대한 설명이 실려있다.
