해설문
국문
업경대는 염라대왕이 망자의 죄를 비추어 보는 거울이다. 전등사 업경대는 인조 5년(1627)에 제작되었는데 황색 사자와 청색 사자 1쌍으로 되어 있다. 나무로 만든 사자의 등 위에 커다란 불꽃 문양으로 둘러싸인 거울이 꽂혀 있는 형태이며, 대웅전에 모신 삼존불상의 오른쪽에 황색 사자가, 왼쪽에 청색 사자가 자리하고 있다. 현재 전등사 대웅전에 있는 업경대는 복제품이며, 진품은 수장고에 보관되어 있다.
좌대(座臺: 기물을 받쳐서 얹어 놓는 대)의 바닥에 ‘천계 7년(1627) 정묘년 9월 13일에 목화원(木畫員)인 천기(天琦), 밀영(密英), 봉생(鳳生)이 새겨 만들었다. (天啓七年丁卯 九月 十三日 刻祿 木畵員 天琦 密英 鳳生)’라는 묵서(墨書: 먹물로 쓴 글씨)가 남아 있어 조선 시대 후기의 불교 목공예품의 편년 설정, 상호 비교 연구에 유용한 자료이다.

A karma mirror stand is a mirror which projects the wrongs of the dead to the Ten Underworld Kings.
Karma Mirror Stands of Jeondeungsa Temple were created in 1627 and they consist of a pair of a yellow lion and blue lion. A mirror surrounded by a large flame design is pinned above the lions that were made of wood, with the yellow lion located to the right of the triad of statues enshrined in the Daeungjeon Hall, and the blue lion – to its left. The karma mirror stands in the current Daeungjeon Hall of Jeondeungsa Temple are reproductions and the authentic articles are kept in a storage facility.
They are considered especially valuable for research on Buddhist wood crafts of the late Joseon period (1392-1910).
