해설문
국문
망월사는 남한산성에 있는 10개의 승영사찰(僧營寺刹) 중 가장 오래 된 사찰이다. 승영사찰은 조선 인조 2년(1624) 남한산성을 축조할 때 산성의 관리와 방어를 담당하는 승군(僧軍)의 거처이자 기도처로 쓰였다. 망월사는 남한산성 축조 이전부터 존재했으며, 이곳에 있던 망월암(望月庵)에서 그 이름이 유래하였다고 전해진다.
전하는 이야기에 따르면 태조 이성계가 한양에 도읍을 정할 때 한양에 있었던 장의사(壯義寺)를 허물고 그곳에 있던 불상과 금으로 만든 화엄경, 금으로 만든 솥 등을 옮겨 망월사에 보관하였다고 한다.
옛 망월사는 1907년 일제 때문에 파괴되었다. 현 망월사는 1990년 이후 창건된 사찰로 지금 대웅전 자리가 옛 망월사의 중심 전각이 있던 곳으로 추정된다.

이곳은 남한산성에 있던 10개의 사찰 중 가장 오래된 망월사가 있던 자리이다. 1624년 남한산성을 축조한 후 산성 내에 승군들이 주둔하는 사찰을 세우고, 산성의 관리와 방어를 담당하게 하였다.
망월사는 남한산성 축조 이전부터 있었다고 한다. 전하는 이야기에 따르면 태조(재위 1392-1398)가 한양에 도읍을 정할 때 한양에 있던 장의사라는 사찰을 허물고, 그곳에 있던 불상과 금으로 만든 화엄경, 금으로 만든 솥 등을 망월사로 옮겨 보관하였다고 한다. 원래의 망월사는 1907년 일본에 의해 파괴되었고, 지금의 망월사는 1990년대에 다시 세워졌다.
