해설문

국문

광명실은 책을 보관하고 열람하던 곳이다. 습기로 책이 망가지는 것을 막기 위해 땅에서 높이 떨어진 건물로 지었다. 현판의 글씨는 퇴계선생의 친필이다. 광명(光明)은 ‘수많은 책들이 광명을 비추어준다.’는 의미이다.

Gwangmyeongsil Libraries

The two buildings on either side of the gate leading to the lecture hall area were used as libraries. These buildings are supported by wooden pillars high above the ground, and this structure was designed to protect the books and documents from moisture. The plaque hung on the right building bears the libraries name Gwangmyeongsil, which can be interpreted as "numerous books give us bright light," and was calligraphed by Yi Hwang.
