해설문

국문

신도비는 조선시대 2품 이상 관직을 지낸 사람의 묘 입구에 세운 묘비(墓碑)이다. 한명회 신도비는 당시 국왕이자 한명회의 사위인 성종이 최고의 문장가 서거정(徐居正)에게 글을 짓게 하고, 이인석(李引錫)에게 글씨를 쓰게 해 건립한 작품이다. 비신(碑身)과 이수(螭首)는 대리석, 비석의 받침은 화강암으로 제작되었다. 이수에 새겨진 용이 돋보이며, 충남지역에 건립된 15세기 묘비 중 조각수법이 매우 뛰어나다.

Stele of Han Myeong-hoe (Tomb of Han Myeong-hoe, Cheonan)

This stele was erected in 1488 to commemorate the life and achievements of the civil official Han Myeong-hoe. Compared to other 15th-century steles in the Chungcheongnam-do region, this stele is characterized by an exceptionally high level of sculptural craftsmanship.

The inscription on the stele was composed by the greatest writer of the time Seo Geo-jeong (1420-1488) upon the order of King Seongjong (r. 1470-1495), who was a son-in-law to Han Myeong-hoe. The stele consists of a granite pedestal, a marble body stone, and a marble capstone. The capstone is decorated with a carved depiction two dragons facing a wish-fulfilling jewel in the center.

영문 해설 내용

이 비석은 한명회의 생애와 업적을 기리기 위해 1488년에 세워졌다. 충청남도 지역에 남아 있는 15세기 비석 중 조각 수법이 매우 뛰어나다.

한명회의 사위인 성종(재위 1470-1495)은 당시 최고의 문장가인 서거정(1420-1488)에게 비문을 짓게 하여 이 신도비를 건립하였다. 화강암으로 만든 받침돌, 대리석으로 만든 몸돌과 머릿돌로 이루어져 있으며, 머릿돌에는 여의주를 가운데 둔 두 마리의 용이 섬세하고 화려하게 새겨져 있다.
