해설문
국문
조선 후기의 무인 조득남(趙得男, 1594~1636)의 애국충절을 기린 정려문과 정려비다. 정려문과 정려비는 충신이나 효자, 열녀를 기리고자 그 행적을 새겨서 세운 문과 비석을 말한다.
조득남은 광해군 13년(1621) 무과에 급제하였고, 인조 5년(1627) 정묘호란이 일어나자 인조를 강화까지 호위하여 따라갔다. 인조 14년(1636) 병자호란이 일어나자, 왕을 모시고 남한산성에 들어가 이시백(李時白, 1581~1660)의 휘하에서 결사 항쟁하였다. 수 차례 승전하였으나, 수적인 열세를 이기지 못하고 전사하였다.
영조 1년(1725)에 그의 충절을 기리기 위해 정려를 세웠으나, 한국전쟁을 겪으면서 완전히 소실되었다. 2001년 5월 복원하여 현재에 이르고 있다.
정려문은 ‘충신각(忠臣閣)’이라는 현판이 달린 정려각 안에 있다. 정려각 왼쪽에는 정려비와 정려복원추진위원회비가 있고, 오른쪽에는 상석과 향로석이 놓인 제단을 마련해놓았다.

Commemorative Plaque and Stele of Jo Deuk-nam for His Loyalty
This plaque, located inside the pavilion, and the stele next to it commemorate the patriotic loyalty of General Jo Deuk-nam (1594-1636), a military official of the Joseon period (1392-1910). Commemorative plaques were bestowed by the government to honor a person’s patriotic loyalty, filial devotion, or matrimonial devotion and were meant to be hung on red gates or in pavilions in front of the honored family’s home.
Jo grew up in Hwahyeon-myeon in Pocheon. He passed the state examination in 1621. When the Manchus invaded Korea in 1627, Jo escorted the royal family to refuge on Ganghwado Island. When they invaded again in 1636, he escorted the king to refuge in Namhansanseong Fortress, where he defended the North Gate to his death. In 1725, he was posthumously honored for his sacrifice, and his family was bestowed this plaque.
The original plaque and pavilion were located in Hwahyeon-myeon but were destroyed during the Korean War (1950-1953). The current pavilion and plaque were newly rebuilt in their current location in 2001. To the left of the pavilion are a commemorative stele and a monument recording the history of the rebuilding of the pavilion. To the right of the pavilion is an altar with a stone table and a stone incense table.
