오어사에는 국가지정 문화유산 「오어사 동종」이 있습니다.

신라 범종의 전통을 계승한 고려시대 범종으로 고려 고종 3년(1216)에 300근의 중량을 들어 오어사에 달았으며 대장(大匠) 순광(順光)이 주조하였다는 기록이 있습니다. 섬세한 문양과 뛰어난 조형미를 자랑하는 동종은 현재 오어사 유물전시관에 전시되어 있습니다.

오어사 동종은 1995년 11월 16일 오어지 저수지 공사 현장에서 굴삭기 기사에 의해 발견되었습니다. 당시 굴삭기 기사였던 이욱형씨가 들려준 신기한 이야기가 있습니다.

동종을 발견한 밤에 꿈을 꾸었는데, 노스님이 나타나 3가지 소원을 말하라고 하셨습니다.

첫째, 부모님이 건강하게 오래오래 살았으면 좋겠습니다. 둘째, 형제들 살아가면서 사이좋게 우애있게 살았으면 좋겠습니다. 셋째, 심장이 좋지 않아 수술을 앞두고 있는 아들이 건강해졌으면 좋겠습니다.

이렇게 세 가지 소원을 이야기 했는데 모두 다 이루어졌습니다. 이후 하는 일이 풀리지 않을 때 오어사에서 기도를 하면 해결될 때가 많습니다.

영문

Bronze Bell of Oeosa Temple: The Wish-Granting Bell

Displayed at the Oeosa Temple Museum is a bronze bell designated as a Treasure in 1998. According to records, the bell was cast by the master artisan Sungwang in 1216 during the Goryeo period (918-1392). Following the style of Buddhist temple bells of the Silla period (57 BCE-935 CE), the bell's delicate patterns and refined form make it a masterpiece of traditional Korean metalwork.

The bell was discovered on November 16, 1995, during construction work at the Oeoji Reservoir. A local excavator operator, Yi Uk-hyeong, found it by chance. That very night he dreamed of an old monk who told him to make three wishes. Yi wished for his parents’ long life and good health, for close and lasting ties with his brothers, and for the recovery of his son who was awaiting heart surgery. According to his account, all three wishes came true.

Since then, local people have believed that prayers offered at Oeosa Temple are fulfilled, and many come here to pray with such faith.
