재덕당은 내행전 뒤편 언덕에 있는 건물로 양쪽 측면과 뒷면에서 화방벽 기초가 조사되어 사당으로 추정된다. 재덕당 옆에 있는 바위에 반석(磐石)이라는 명문이 새겨져 있어, 나라의 존립에 기초가 되는 인물들을 배향하고, 항전의 의지를 다지는 공간으로 생각해 볼 수 있다.

숙종 14년(1688)에 광주 유수 이세백이 건립하였다. 발굴 조사한 결과 건물은 정면 3칸, 측면 3칸이었으며 이를 근거로 지금의 재덕당은 2002년 복원되었다.

바위글씨 반석 磐石

반석은 어떠한 것을 지탱해 주는 견고하고 든든한 기반을 비유적으로 이르는 말이다. 병자호란을 겪고 종묘사직과 나라를 ‘반석’과 같이 튼튼히 지켜야 한다는 의미를 담아 새긴 것으로 추정된다.

Jaedeokdang Hall of Temporary Palace at Namhansanseong Fortress

Jaedeokdang Hall, located on the elevated area behind Naehaengjeon Hall, was established in 1688 by the magistrate of Gwangju Yi Se-baek and is presumed to have served as a shrine. An archaeological excavation of the site confirmed the structural remains of a building measuring three bays in width by three bays in depth with stone block walls on the sides and rear. The current building was rebuilt in 2002 based on archaeological findings.

The rock placed next to the hall bears an inscription reading “Banseok,” meaning “Foundation Stone,” suggesting that the shrine served to venerate figures crucial to the state’s survival and cultivate the spirit of military resilience.

The inscription on this rock reads “Banseok,” referring to a large flat stone that metaphorically represents a strong and reliable foundation. It is presumed to have been inscribed in the aftermath of the Manchu invasion of 1637, emphasizing the importance of protecting the royal dynasty and the state.
