The Birthplace of Keumho Asiana Group

Narrative

Kumho Asiana Group is a large Korean conglomerate, best known for Kumho Tire and Asiana Airlines. The company was first founded after Korea’s liberation from colonial rule in 1945 by Park In-chon (1901-1984) as a taxi service based out of the Geumnam-ro area named Gwangju Passenger Vehicles, which grew to include bus and coach services by the 1950s under the name Kumho Buslines. Over the next decades, the company grew through vertical integration, establishing Kumho Tire and expanding into aviation, construction, logistics, IT, culture, and tourism. There are a number of facilities operated by the Kumho Cultural Foundation out of the U-Square Bus Terminal and its U-Square Cultural Center, including Kumho Gallery and Kumho Arthall. Other facilities related to Park In-chon and the Kumho Asiana Group include the Kumho Citizens’ Culture Center and Kumho World.
