Gwangju’s Next-Generation Industries

Gwangju City has heavily invested in the next-generation industries to boost the local economy, in particular looking at eco-friendly vehicles. In 2021, the Gwangju Global Motors Co. Ltd. was established as joint venture manufacturing plant between Hyundai Motor Company and the Gwangju city government in the Bitgreen National Industrial Complex. In 2023, the Gwangju High Tech Industry Park was announced as part of a national plan to foster high-tech industries. The park will focus on localizing core parts for future vehicles and developing advanced technologies. A number of R&D institutes are concentrated in the High Tech Industry Park, including the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology, Gwangju Technopark, the Korea Photonics Technology Institute, and the Gwangju National Science Museum , which form part of the Gwangju High Tech ESG Community.
