初二日,陰,會同館副使李恕來謂臣等曰:“你四十三人,不保本國差來進責人,一日一人支給,正是陳老米一升而已,無饑”云云,臣步出館門,適遇(傳)【傳】榮,相話于玉河橋邊,臣問曰:“我所經處浙江有通州,北京亦有通州;徐州府有清河縣,廣平府亦有清河縣.一海內州縣有同名者,何耶?”榮曰:“名雖偶同,所管布政司有異,實無害也.”
흐렸습니다.
회동관부사(會同官副使) 이서(李恕)가 와서 신 등에게,
“당신들 43인은 본국에서 파견한 조공사절이 아니기 때문에 하루 한 사람에게 묵은 쌀 1승(升)을 지급할 뿐이고 반찬은 없습니다” 라고 운운하였습니다.
신은 걸어서 회동관 문을 나오다가 마침 부영(傅榮)을 만났습니다.
옥하교 가에서 서로 이야기하다가 신이 묻기를,
“내가 지나온 곳 가운데 절강에도 통주(通州)가 있고 북경에도 통주가 있으며, 서주부(徐州府)에도 청하현(淸河縣)이 있고 광평부(廣平府)에도 청하현이 있는데, 한 해내(海內)에서 이름이 같은 주현(州縣)이 있는 것은 무슨 까닭입니까?”라고 하였습니다.
“명칭은 비록 우연히 같지만 관할하는 포정사(布政司)가 다르니 실제로 아무 지장이 없습니다."
2nd Day. Cloudy.
Li Chu, the Assistant Commissioner of the Central Post Hotel, came and said to me, “Since you forty-three men are not tribute-bearers for your own country, the daily ration a man will be only one quart of old rice. There will be no salt or other foods.” I walked out the gate of the house and happened to meet Fu Jung, and we talked at the foot of Jade River Bridge. I said, “Among the places that I have passed, there was a T’ung-chou in Chekiang, and Peking also has a T’ungchou. Hsü-chou Prefecture had a Ch’ing-ho County, and so did Kuang p’ing Prefecture. How is it that among the departments and counties of the · country there are [different] places with the same name?”. Fu Jung said, “Though it happens that their names are the same, the public offices by which they are governed are different, and really no harm is done.”
