陰。國子監生員楊汝霖，王演，陳道等戴黑頭巾。穿靑衿團領。來曰。你國學徒亦服此乎。臣曰。幼學雖在窮村僻巷者。皆服之。又曰。你國亦有專經否。臣曰。我 國科擧。取精通經書者。故學徒精硏四書五經。其專治一經者。不得齒儒者之列。
흐렸습니다.
국자감생(國子監生) 양여림(楊汝霖)·왕연(王演)·진도(陳道) 등이 흑두건(黑頭巾)을 쓰고 청금3단령(靑衿團領)[1]을 입고 와서 말하기를,
“당신 나라의 학도(學徒)들도 이 옷을 입습니까?”라고 하였습니다.
“학동(學童)들은 비록 궁벽한 마을에 있다 해도 모두 이 옷을 입습니다.”
“당신 나라에서도 경서(經書)만을 전공하는 사람이 있습니까?”
“우리나라의 과거는 경서에 정통한 사람을 뽑기 때문에 학도들이 사서(四書)·오경(五經)을 열심히 연구합니다. 한 가지 경서만 전공한 사람은 유자(儒者)의 반열에 낄 수 없습니다.”

Yang Ju-lin, Wang Yen, and Ch'en Tao, students of the National University, wearing black hats and blue collars round their throats, came and said, “Do the students in your country also wear these?” I said, “All young students, even though they are in remote villages or secluded lanes, wear them.” They said, “In your country is there also “specialization in Classics’?”. I said, “In the examinations in my country, those versed in the Classics and Books are passed. The students, therefore, study the Four Books and Five Classics thoroughly. Those who have mastered only one Classic do not attain the rank of full-fledged Confucian scholars.”
