陰。夕雷電雨雹。李翔來曰。我實你朝鮮通事也。前一二日。兵部及 內庭有事。故不入奏你等事。今日若又不奏。則明日必入奏之。臣答曰。天下之窮人。莫如我也。父已死母又老。弟幼弱。家貧窶。治喪所需。皆闕如也。我又漂流。未報存亡。母與弟豈知我得蒙 聖天子鴻恩。生到大國乎。必幷治我喪。悲慟極天。請足下告于禮部。使我毋久留于此。翔曰。你之生來事。你國安宰相處良。已詳回還。臣曰。安宰相何以知之。翔曰。浙江鎭守差指揮楊輅。將你事緣陸路晝夜馳報。於三月十二日來到。安公謄寫奏本而去。你家當於四五月之交。必知你不死於海。不足憂也。但你之情理甚切。誠可憐恤。我當告于兵部，禮部。
흐렸으며 저녁에 천둥 번개가 치고 우박이 내렸습니다.
이상이 와서 말하기를,
“나는 실은 당신네 조선 통사입니다. 1-2일 전에 병부와 내정(內庭)에서 일이 있었던 까닭에 당신들에 관한 일을 상주하지 못했는데, 만약 오늘도 상주하지 못하게 된다면 내일은 반드시 상주하게 될 것입니다” 라고 하였습니다.
신이 대답하기를,
“천하의 곤궁한 자로서 나만한 사람은 없을 것입니다. 아버지는 이미 돌아가셨고 어머니는 또한 늙으셨으며, 아우는 어리고 약한데 집은 가난하니, 초상을 치르는 데 필요한 아무것도 없는 형편입니다. 내가 또한 표류하여 살았는지 죽었는지도 알리지 못했으니, 어머니와 아우는 어찌 내가 성천자(聖天子)의 큰 은혜를 입어 살아서 대국에 이른 것을 알겠습니까? 반드시 내 초상까지 아울러 치르며 슬픔이 하늘에 닿았을 것입니다. 청컨대 족하께서는 예부에 이 사실을 알려서 내가 이곳에 오래 머물지 않도록 해 주십시오”라고 하였습니다.
“당신이 살아서 온 일은 당신 나라의 안처량 재상이 이미 자세히 알고 돌아갔습니다.”[1]
“안 재상께서 어떻게 아셨습니까?”
“절강진수(浙江鎭守)가 지휘 양노(楊啓)를 보내어 당신의 일을 육로로 밤낮으로 달려 보고하게 하여 3월 12일에 도착하였으므로, 안공(安公)이 주본(奏本)을 베껴 가지고 갔습니다.
당신의 집에서는 4월 말 5월 초에 반드시 당신이 바다에서 죽지 않았음을 알게 될 것이니 근심할 것 없습니다. 그렇지만 당신의 사정이 매우 절박하여 참으로 가여워 도와줄 만하니 내가 마땅히 병부와 예부에 보고하겠습니다.”
3rd Day. Cloudy; thunder, lightning, rain, and hail in the evening.
Li Hsiang came and said, “I am an interpreter for your Korea. For the past one or two days, the Ministry of War and the Palace have had things to do, and the memorial of your case, therefore, was not sent in. If it is not presented today, it will surely be tomorrow."
I answered, “Of all the unfortunates in the world, none is so ill-fated as I. My father is dead, my mother is old, my younger brother is delicate, and the family is poor. Everything needed to observe mourning is wanting. I, moreover, have drifted away, and they have not been informed whether I am dead or alive. How are my mother and younger brother to know that I have received great kindness from His Majesty the Emperor and have reached China alive? They must be mourning for me also; they must have boundless grief. Please petition the Ministry of Rites not to keep me here a long time.” Li Hsiang said, “Prime Minister An Ch’-ryang of your country has learned all about your arrival here alive and has turned back for home.”
I said, “How did Prime Minister An know about it?”
Li Hsiang said, “The Overseer of Chekiang sent Commander Yang Lu speeding night and day by the land route to report your case. He arrived here the 12th Day, Third Month. His Excellency An copied the memorial and left. Between the end of the Fourth and the beginning of the Fifth Month, your family will know that you did not die at sea.? It is not worth grieving over. But the strain on you must be severe; truly I can sympathize with you. I shall make known your anxiety to the Ministries of War and Rites.”
初三日
