朝大雷電以雨。午後陰。有遼東人陳玘，王鑽，張景，張昇，王用，何玉，劉傑等。以商販事。先到于此。聞臣等之至。以淸酒三壺糖餳一盤荳腐一盤大餠一盤來饋臣及從者。且曰。我遼東城。地隣貴國。義同一家。今日幸得相見於客旅之中。敢將薄物。以爲禮耳。臣曰。貴地。卽古高句麗故都。高句麗。今爲我 朝鮮之地。地之沿革。雖因時有異。其實同一國也。今我喘息九死之餘。漂泊萬里之外。四顧無相識之人。得遇諸足下。又受厚惠。如見一家骨肉之親。玘曰。我於正月起程。二月初吉到此。四月初旬間回還。恐不得再相見也。若先過賤地安定門內。問有儒學陳瀛者。吾兒也。好傳吾消息云云。相別而去。臣等撑舟至下津廠前留泊。

아침에 큰 천둥과 번개를 동반한 비가 내렸다가 오후에 흐렸습니다.

요동 사람 진기(陳)·왕찬(王讚)·장경(張景)·장승(張昇)·왕용(王用)·하옥(何玉)·유걸(劉傑) 등이 장사하는 일로 먼저 이곳에 도착하였다가 신 등이 이른 것을 듣고, 청주 3병 · 엿 1쟁반 · 두부 1쟁반·떡 1쟁반을 가지고 와서 신과 종자들을 접대하고 말하기를,

“우리 요동성(遼東城)은 귀국과 접했으므로 정의(情義)가 한 집안과 같습니다. 오늘 다행히 객지에서 만나게 되었으므로 감히 약소한 물품을 가져와서 예를 차리는 것입니다” 라고 하였습니다.

신이 말하기를,

“귀지(貴地)는 곧 옛날 고구려의 고도(故都)입니다. 고구려가 지금은 우리 조선의 땅이 되었으니, 땅의 연혁은 비록 시대에 따라 다르지만 실은 한 나라와 같습니다. 지금 내가 거의 죽을 뻔하다가 만리 밖에서 표류 정박하여 사방을 돌아보아도 서로 아는 사람이 없었는데, 족하를 만나게 되고 또 후한 은혜를 받았으니, 한집안 골육의 친족을 본 듯합니다”라고 하였습니다.

진기는, “제가 정월에 길을 떠나서 2월 초길(初吉)에 이곳에 도착했고 4월 초순쯤에 돌아가게 될 것이니 아마 다시는 보지 못할 듯합니다. 만약 먼저 제가 사는 지방을 지난다면 안정문(安定門)안에 유학(儒學) 진영(陳婦)이란 자가 있는데, 제 아들이니 저의 소식을 전해 주기 바랍니다" 운운하고는 서로 작별하고 떠났습니다.

신 등은 노를 저어 하진창(下津廠) 앞에 이르러 정박하였습니다.

15th Day. At dawn, a violent thunder-storm. In the afternoon, cloudy.

There were some men from Liao-tung- Ch’en Ch'i, Wang Chih, Chang Ching, Chang Sheng, Wang Yung, Ho Yü, and Liu Chieh, who had arrived there previously on commerce. When they heard of our arrival, they brought three pots of refined wine, one plate of sweetmeats, one plate of bean-curd, and one plate of large pancakes and served them to me and my staff. They said, "The site of our city of Liao-tung is adjacent to your country, and we are like a single family. We are fortunate today to have met you on our journey and venture to offer these crude things only as tokens of courtesy.” I said, “Your land was the former capital of old Koguryo, and Koguryo is now the land of my Choson. Though the conditions of rule of the land have changed with the times, it is really the same country. Now, when I am panting from the closest brush with death and a voyage of ten thousand li, and no one I know is around me, to meet you and, moreover, receive your warm kindness are like meeting someone of my own flesh and blood.”

Ch’en Ch’i said, “We started out in the First Month and arrived here on the first of the Second Month. In the first ten days of the Fourth Month we shall return home. I am afraid that we shall not be able to meet again. If you pass through my land ahead of me, ask inside An-ting Gate for Ch'en Ying, a Confucian scholar. He is my son. Be good enough to give him word of me.” We took leave of each other and left. We poled the boats to [a point) in front of Hsia-chin-ch'ang and moored them there.
