The reinterpretation of her works through the visual and performing arts reveals, in new dimensions, the universality and artistic sensitivity that define Han’s narratives.

The 2010 film Vegetarian (directed by Lim Woo-seong) is based on Han Kang’s novel of the same title. Transforming the novel’s introspective prose into visual language, the film sensuously portrays the intersection of social violence and individual anxiety. It was invited to the 2009 Busan International Film Festival and the 2010 Sundance Film Festival, drawing international attention. Director Lim’s next film, Scars (2011), based on Han’s novella Baby Buddha, delicately depicts the lingering wounds and memories of ordinary life and was invited to the 2011 San Sebastián International Film Festival.
