5호 해자의 최대 규모는 동서 길이가 62m이고, 남북 최대 폭은 28m이다. 석축은 직사각형 돌을 이용하여 바른층쌓기*로 세웠다. 이 해자의 석축은 세 번 고쳐 지어졌으며 그때마다 규모가 작아졌다.
5호 해자는 건해자**로 먼저 복원되었으며, 복원된 건해자의 위치와 형태를 기준으로 물을 담은 해자로 재정비하였다. 현재 서쪽의 습지와 수로로 연결되어 있는데, 이 수로는 해자의 관리를 위해 현대에 새롭게 만든 것이다.
