참봉댁은 입향조(入鄕組)*인 이사종의 12대손으로 참봉을 지낸 이중렬(李重烈, 1859~1891)과 그의 아들 이용후(李用厚, 1886~1955)의 집이다. 이중렬은 1891년 증광시에서 진사에 급제했다.

참봉댁은 이 마을에서 보기 드물게 ‘ㅡ’자 모양의 안채와 사랑채가 나란히 2열로 배열된 ‘二’자 집이다. 남서향으로 자리를 잡았으며, 약 6m 정도의 거리를 두고 안채와 사랑채가 있는데 앞면의 길이는 같지만 옆면의 폭이 서로 다르다.

Chambongdaek House (Oeam Village, Asan)

Chambongdaek House belonged to Yi Yong-hu (1886-1955), a son of the civil official Yi Jung-nyeol* (1859-1891). Yi Jung-nyeol was a 12th-generation descendant of Yi Sa-jong who was the first person the Yean Yi Clan to settle in Oeam Village. Yi Jung-nyeol passed the literary licentiate examination in 1891 and served a low-rank civil post at a local government office, called chambong, hence, the name of the house**.

The house faces southwest and consists of a men’s quarters and a women’s quarters***. Both buildings have a linear layout and are parall to each other. Such a structure of a house is uncommon for Oeam Village, where most houses feature one L-shaped buildings and have a square layout with a courtyard in the middle.

참봉댁은 이중렬(1859-1891)과 그의 아들 이용후(1886-1955)의 집이다. 이중렬은 예안이씨 중 외암마을에 처음으로 정착한 이사종의 12대손으로, 1891년 진사시에 급제하였다. 이중렬이 하위 관직 중 하나인 참봉을 지냈기 때문에 참봉댁이라는 이름이 붙여졌다.

남서향의 이 집은 ‘ㅡ’자 모양의 안채와 사랑채가 약 6m 정도의 거리를 두고 앞뒤로 배치되어 있다. 이는 외암마을에서 보기 드문 구조인데, 대부분의 집들이 안채나 사랑채가 ‘ㄱ’자 모양이고 마당을 중심으로 ‘ㅁ’자 모양을 이루기 때문이다.
