왕벚나무의 영문 표기 검토 필요
- 기존의 문화재청 『문화재명칭 영문 표기 기준 규칙』에서는 왕벚나무를 ‘Yoshino Cherry’로 표기했습니다. 하지만 Yoshino Cherry는 일본의 왕벚나무를 일컫는 이름이고, 제주 자생 왕벚나무 사이의 원산지 논쟁이 꾸준히 제기되어 왔으며, 2016년의 연구 결과에 따르면 일본 왕벚나무와 제주에 자생하는 왕벚나무는 별개의 종으로 밝혀졌다고 합니다.
- 『한반도 자생식물 영어이름 목록집』(국립수목원, 2022) 에서는 '제주 왕벚나무'의 영문 명칭을 Jeju Flowering Cherry 로, 학명을 Prunus × nudiflora (Koehne) Koidz.으로 표기함.
