해설문
국문
이 돌구조물은 남원성의 수호신을 섬기는 제단으로, 이곳에 우체국을 지으면서 일부 파괴되었던 것을 근래에 지금의 모습으로 복원하였다. 현재의 석돈은 받침부에는 40∼80cm 크기의 돌을, 중간부와 상부에는 20∼30cm 크기의 자연석을 쌓아서 네모난 단을 이루었다. 석돈은 그 옛날 관리의 숙소였던 용성관(龍城館)의 부근에 거대한 돌무더기로 쌓여 있었다. 그 위에는 풀이 무성하고 고목이 우거져, 철따라 두견새와 두루미가 날아와 쉬어 가곤 했다고 한다. 근래 각종 건물을 지으면서 석돈의 돌을 빼내어 사용하기도 하였다고 전한다.

영문 해설 내용
화강암으로 쌓은 이 돌무더기는 남원성의 수호신을 섬기는 제단으로 만들어진 것이다. 언제 처음 만들어졌는지는 알 수 없다. 원래 이곳에는 거대한 돌무더기가 쌓여있었고, 그 위에는 풀이 무성하고 고목이 우거져, 철따라 새들이 날아와 쉬어가곤 했다고 전해진다. 그러나 이후 이 일대에 각종 건물을 지으면서, 석돈의 돌을 빼내어 사용하기도 했다고 한다.
1986년 남원우체국을 지으면서 일부 파괴되었던 것을 지금의 모습으로 보수하였다. 현재 석돈은 아래쪽에는 40-80cm 크기의 돌을, 중간과 위쪽에는 20-30cm 크기의 돌을 쌓아 네모난 단의 형태를 이루고 있다.
