국문
「구시」란 긴 나무나 돌을 오목하게 파서 만든 「구유」를 뜻하는 제주어로 이 물은 삼별초 항쟁 당시 옹성물과 더불어 삼별초 군의 식수로 이용하였고 토성 밖인데도 또 작은 성을 쌓아 나무로 구시를 만들어 병사나 사녀의 이용수로 관리하였다고 한다. 지금은 구시물 주위에 쌓았던 성이 흔적밖에 없고 구시가 돌로 대체되어 있으나 1993년 2월에 삼별초 항쟁 당시 것으로 추정되는 구시통이 발견되어 삼별초 군 및 몽리 주민의 식수로 사용했었음을 알 수 있다. 또한 이 물은 아무리 가물어도 마르지 않는 질 좋은 생수라 그 옛날 콜레라가 돌 때도 이 지역은 한 사람의 희생자도 없었다고 구전되어지고 있다.

영문 해설 내용
구시물은 삼별초 군 및 몽리 주민들이 식수로 사용하던 샘이다. ‘구시’란 긴 나무나 돌을 오목하게 파서 만든 그릇을 뜻하는 제주어이다.
이 샘물은 아무리 가물어도 마르지 않는 질 좋은 생수이고, 콜레라가 돌 때도 이 지역은 한 사람의 희생자도 없었다고 전해진다. 샘이 항파두리성 밖에 있기 때문에 나무로 구시를 만들고 샘과 구시 주위에 작은 성을 쌓아 관리하였다고 한다. 당시 사용하던 것으로 추정되는 나무 구시가 1993년 샘 주변에서 발견되었다. 구시물 주위에 쌓았던 성은 지금은 흔적밖에 없고 구시도 돌로 만든 것으로 대체되어 있다.
