궁궐 서쪽 담장의 남쪽 1/3이 되는 지점에서 발견되었다. 문이 있던 터는 궁궐 담장이 끊어져 있는 상태로 알 수 있다. 이 터의 길이는 8.9m, 너비는 3m 정도 남아 있다. 윗면을 잘 다듬은 원형 주춧돌(초석,礎石) 3매가 5.6m, 2.1m 간격으로 떨어져 있었다. 주춧돌 사이의 배치 상태로 보아 문은 중앙이 넓고, 양쪽이 좁은 구조를 하고 있다. 규모는 정면 3칸(7.7m), 측면 2칸(4.2m)으로 추정된다. 주춧돌 아래에 땅을 파고 널돌(판석,板石)을 놓은 시설이 확인되었다. 안쪽에는 문의 경계를 이루는 단시설과 함께 다듬은 돌로 만들어진 배수로가 있다.

West Gate Site

This is a former site of a gate in the western section of the wall that once surrounded the detached palace built here during the reign of King Mu (r. 600-641) of the Baekje kingdom (18 BCE-660 CE).

The gate site measures 8.9 m in length* and 3 m in width. Three pillar bases were found on the site located 5.6 m and 2.1 m from each other. The position of the pillar bases suggests that the gate had one wide opening in the middle and two narrow openings on either side. The size of the gate is estimated to have been 7.7 m in length and 4.2 m in width. Other structural remains on the site include stone plates(?), found underneath the pillar bases, and a drainage ditch, made of refined stones*.

• I don’t quite understand this part without a photograph ‘안쪽에는 문의 경계를 이루는 단시설과 함께’. So, I just skipped it since it doesn’t seem very important.

I don’t know how to explain the difference between the size of the site and the estimated size of the gate. The length of the gate is smaller than the length of the site but the width is larger …
