Chungminsa Shrine is dedicated to three military officials who heroically died during the Japanese invasions of 1592-1598, namely Yi Sun-sin (1545-1598), Yi Eok-gi (1561-1597), and An Hong-guk (1555-1597). The shrine was established upon royal order in 1601 on the recommendation of the chief state councilor Yi Hang-bok (1556-1618) and was later royally chartered on the recommendation of the fifth royal secretary Kim Sang-yong (1561-1637). It was demolished in 1868 when most shrines and Confucian academies were shut down by a nationwide decree. 해설문
국문
여수 충민사는 충무공 이순신, 의민공 이억기, 충현공 안홍국을 모시는 사당이다. 임진왜란이 끝난 후인 선조 34년(1601)에 세 장군을 기리고자 하는 영의정 이항복의 요청에 따라 왕명을 받은 이시언이 건립하였다. 그 후 우부승지 김상용의 요청으로 충민사에 사액*이 내려졌다.
충민사는 고종 5년(1868)에 서원 철폐령이 내려지면서 철거되었다가 고종 10년(1873)에 다시 세워졌다.

영문 해설 내용
충민사는 임진왜란 때 전사한 무신 이순신(1545-1598), 이억기(1561-1597), 안홍국(1555-1597)을 모시는 사당이다. 1601년에 세 사람을 기리고자 하는 영의정 이항복(1556-1618)의 요청에 따라 왕명으로 건립되었고, 우부승지 김상용(1561-1637)의 요청으로 사액이 내려졌다. 1868년 서원철폐령이 내려지면서 철거되었다. 지금의 건물은 1947년에 다시 짓고 1975년에 정비한 것이다.
