해설문
국문
금학산(琴鶴山) 서남쪽 능선 끝에 드러나 있는 바위에 새겨진 마애석각(磨崖石刻)이다. 3폭 병풍처럼 생긴 바위의 맨 아래 단에 새겨져 있다. 1980년 11월 발견될 때까지 글을 새긴 부분이 흙속에 묻혀 있었기 때문에 글자가 훼손되지 않아 매우 뚜렷하다.
조선 숙종 33년(1707) 주민들이 경주시내의 홍수를 예방하고자 알천 제방을 수리하고 부역했음을 기록한 것이다. 세 개의 바위 면에 90여 자로 부역 내용과 참여하여 지휘한 사람들의 인명 등을 기록하였다. 그 내용은 다음과 같다.
閼川西注 邑基東圮 서쪽으로 흐르는 알천 물살에 고을 동편 제방이 무너졌네. 高擁木石 奧自麗氏 나무와 돌로 높은 둑을 쌓았으니 고려 때부터라네. 今又脩改 歲維丁亥 올해 정해년에 다시 수리하여 고치었네. 因勢利導 水由古道 지형 따라 잡은 갈래 예전에 흐르던 대로 물길 터주었네. 磨峨記蹟 垂之千億 이 바위 면에 사실을 적어 영원토록 전하고자 하네.
