감람암포획 현무암분포지는 황록색을 띤 감람암 암편들을 다량으로 함유한 현무암이 분포하는 곳이다. 진촌리 동쪽 해안선을 따라 다량의 현무암이 노출되어 있는 곳으로 세계적으로 보기 드문 곳이다. 이 감람암 파편들은 지구 속 수십 ㎞ 아래에서 만들어진 감람암이 용암이 분출할 때 함께 올라와 만들어졌다. 지하 깊은 곳에서의 마그마 상태와 마그마의 분화 과정을 연구하는 데 대단히 중요한 자료이다. 우리나라에 감람암 포획 현무암이 분포하는 곳은 경기도 전곡, 평택, 강원도 철원 일대, 울릉도, 제주도 등 에 국한되어 있다.

Peridotite Xenolith-Bearing Basalt in Jinchon-ri, Baengnyeongdo Island, Ongjin

This beach bares large basalt rocks, which contain great amounts of yellow-green peridotite xenolith pebbles/fragments. In Korea, peridotite xenolith-bearing basalt can only be found in Gyeonggi-do Province, Pyeongtaek, Cheorwon in Gangwon-do Province, and Ulleung-do and Jeju-do Islands(or: The existence of these rocks in Jinchon-ri is particular/noteworthy, because...).

Basalts, such as the ones found in Jinchon-ri, bearing such large amount of peridotite xenolith pebbles/debris?, are generally very rare. Peridotite xenolith pebbles are formed tens of kilometers underground, and are only brought to the surface of the earth during volcanic eruptions. It is an invaluable source for research on the properties of magma and magmatic eruption.
