해설문
국문
홍교란 ‘홍예(虹霓)’라고 부르는 반월형의 구조물이 다리 밑을 받치도록 만든 다리를 말하며, 홍예교 또는 무지개다리라고도 한다. 아름답고 구조적으로 가장 안정된 형식의 다리이지만 축조하는 일이 쉽지 않다.
간성읍 해상리와 탑현리 경계에 위치한 이 홍교는 ‘백운교(白雲橋)’라는 또 다른 이름이 있는데 언제 처음 만들어졌는지 알 수 없다. 인근 건봉사 경내에 있는 능파교(보물 제1336호)가 1704년(숙종30년)에 시작하여 1707년(숙종33년)에 완성되었는데, 이 다리도 비슷한 시기에 세워진 것으로 추정된다. 다리 근처에 한 그루의 소나무에 여섯 지주(支柱)가 있어 ‘육송정 홍교’라고 이름 하였는데 지금은 소나무와 정자가 남아있지 않다. 현재의 다리는 2006년에 해체하여 보수한 것이다.
육송정 홍교의 홍예는 자연지형을 그대로 활용하여 만들었다. 동쪽은 높이 1.7m의 암반 위에 30cm 높이의 지대석을 1단 두었고, 서쪽은 3단의 지대석을 쌓고 그 위에 홍예를 올렸다. 홍예의 지름은 7.2m, 폭은 2.9m이며, 긴 네모꼴의 돌을 한 줄에 2~3개씩 이어 쌓았다. 홍예 양옆에는 자연 형태 그대로의 냇돌을 쌓았는데, 아래쪽에는 큰 돌을 위쪽에는 작은 돌을 사용하였다.
자연지형을 잘 이용하여 지었으며 보존상태도 양호하여, 조선시대 돌로 만든 무지개다리의 아름다운 조형미와 건축기술을 잘 보여준다. 다리 길이는 10.6m, 높이는 4.8m, 폭은 3m이다.
