This forest of pine trees located in the northwest of Maewon Village was first made in the mid-18th century. The village residents believed that someone of importance could rarely be found in the village if the terrain was weak, therefore, they planted about 20 pine trees to compensate for the terrain which was relatively low and weak compared to the east. This forest was an attempt to compensate the village space with feng shui principles from ecological side. Japanese hackberries are generally planted when trees are planted to compensate for a terrain, so this village is unique in that it has planted pine trees. The pine trees of this forest are characterized with four trunks growing from a single root.

동솔밭은 매원마을의 서쪽 경계로, 풍수지리상 우백호에 해당하는 소나무 숲이다. 18세기 중반 이원록의 3대손인 이계중을 비롯한 마을 주민들은 마을의 뒤가 허하면 큰 인물이 나지 않는다고 여겼다. 이에 소나무 20여 그루를 비보수*로 조성하였다. 비보수를 조성한 것은 풍수지리와 생태적 측면에서 완벽한 마을 공간을 구성하려는 행위이다. 비보수를 조성할 때에는 보통 팽나무를 심지만 이 마을에서는 소나무를 심었다는 점이 독특하다. 또한 하나의 뿌리에서 4개의 나무줄기(四松)가 자라는 것이 특징이다.
