해설문

국문

자연석을 이용하여 돋을새김을 한 마애여래상이다. 머리는 나발(螺髮)이고 육계(肉髻)가 크게 표현되어 있으며, 얼굴은 살이 많이 올라 있으나 이마가 좁고 인중이 짧아 둔중한 느낌이다. 착의법은 양어깨를 덮은 통견(通肩)으로 가슴에는 사선상(斜線狀)으로 속옷인 승각기와 치마를 묶은 매듭이 표현되어 있다. 옷 주름이 평면적이기는 하나 신체가 당당하고 균형을 잃지 않은 뛰어난 불상이다.

제작시기는 형식화된 경향과 가슴의 매듭 형태가 백률사 금동약사여래입상(국보 제28호) 등과 유사하여 통일신라시대인 9세기로 추정된다. 불상 높이는 580㎝, 너비는 310㎝이다.
