Semi-circular Wall of the South Gate of Gyeongsangjwasuyeongseong Fortress
This was the semi-circular wall of the South Gate of Gyeongsangjwasuyeongseong Fortress. A semi-circular wall, a common element of Korean fortress architecture, was built outside of a fortress gate to strengthen its defenses.
According to the Atlas and Geography of Korea (Yeoji doseo), compiled in the 18th century, Gyeongsangjwasuyeongseong Fortress had a semi-circular wall in front of three of its gates. An archeological excavation conducted in 1990 confirmed that the south, north, and east gates were equipped with such semi-circular walls.
It is presumed that these semi-circular walls were constructed circa 1652 when the East Gyeongsang-do Navy Headquarters was moved to Haeunpo Port (today's Suyeong-dong). The Map of the East Navy Headquarters (Jwasuyeong ji), compiled in the 18th century, mentions that the east and north semi-circular walls were repaired in 1692 during a reconstruction of the fortress.

- ---> The western gate was located atop a hill (today's Suyeong Historic Park) and thus did not need or could not accommodate a semi-circular wall.
