처음 이루어진 발굴 조사에서 1-2호 해자는 1-1호 해자와 하나의 석축 해자*인 것으로 추정되었다. 그러나 2019~2021년 실시된 월성 진입로 발굴 조사를 통해, 석축을 세우면서 별개의 석축 해자로 만들었다는 것이 확인되었다.

1-2호 해자의 최대 규모는 동서 길이가 65m이며 남북 폭은 30m이다. 석축은 한두 번 고쳐 지어졌고 크기는 처음보다 작아졌다. 한편 2호 해자와 연결된 수로의 축이 다른 수로들과 달리 남-북에 가깝다는 점이 특징이다.

Moat No. 1-2 (Wolseong Palace Site, Gyeongju)

Moat No. 1 is the westernmost and has the lowest elevation among the moats along the northern border of the Silla palace site. It was initially believed to be a single basin, but an excavation in 2019-2021 revealed that it actually consisted of two basins.

Moat No. 1-2 measures up to 65 m from east to west and up to 30 m from south to north. The moat’s stone embankment was rebuilt once or twice, becoming smaller over time. The water channel connecting this moat to Moat No. 2 is oriented along more of a north-south axis compared to the other water channels.

영문 해설 내용

1호 해자는 월성 북쪽의 해자 7기 중 가장 낮은 서쪽에 위치하고 있다. 1호 해자는 원래 하나의 석축 해자인 것으로 알려져 있었다. 그러나 2019-2021년 실시된 발굴 조사 결과, 수혈 해자에서 석축 해자로 바뀌면서 1-1호 석축 해자와 1-2호 석축 해자로 분리되었다는 사실이 확인되었다.
