Jang Bo-go (?-846) was stationed on Anmyeondo Island, his subordinate named Seung Eon was a commander. Seung Eon was in a loving relationship with his wife Mi Do. One day, Seung Eon received a command from Jang Bo-go to leave for a distant battle, but eventually he couldn't return, so Mi Do who was mourning for her husband, would come up the rock and wait every day, eventually dying on the rock. It is said that after time passed, another rock suddenly emerged next to the rock where Mi Do died, so the people group the two rocks together and call them "Halmibawi and Harabibawi Rocks".

안면도 꽃지 할미 할아비 바위는 안면읍 승언리의 바닷가에 위치한 한 쌍의 바위섬이다.

바닷물이 들어왔을 때는 바다 위의 섬이 되고 바닷물이 빠져나갔을 때는 육지와 연결되어 하루에도 몇 번씩 변하는 다양한 경관을 보여준다. 특히 바다와 어우러져 바위 뒤로 펼쳐지는 해넘이 경관이 뛰어나 우리나라 서해안 낙조 감상의 대표적인 명소이다.

바위에 전해 내려오는 금슬 좋은 노부부의 전설과 승언·미도의 사랑이야기가 지닌 민속적 가치 또한 크다.

장보고가 안면도를 기지로 삼고 주둔하였을 때 승언이라는 부하가 사령관으로 있었는데, 당시 승언과 미도 부부는 금슬이 좋아 서로 하루라도 보지 못하면 살기 어려웠다고 한다. 어느 날 승언이 장보고의 명령을 받게되어 떠나면서 돌아오겠다는 말을 남겼지만 끝내 돌아오지 못했고 미도는 승언을 그리워하며 기다리다가 바위로 변하였다고 한다. 시간이 흘러 바위로 변한 미도 옆에 또 다른 바위가 생겨났고 세상 사람들은 이 두 바위를 ’할미 할아비 바위‘라고 불렀다고 한다.

꽃지해수욕장에 위치한 한 쌍의 바위로, 왼편의 작은 바위를 할미 바위, 반대편에 있는 것을 할아비 바위라고 부른다.

이곳은 바닷물이 들어올 때는 섬이 되었다가 바닷물이 빠져나가면 육지와 연결되어 걸어서 갈 수 있다. 특히 섬 사이로 해가 넘어갈 때 바닷물과 어우러지는 경관이 뛰어나, 서해안에서 일몰을 감상할 수 있는 대표적인 명소이다.

두 바위에는 다음과 같은 전설이 있다. 신라 흥덕왕(재위 826-836)때의 무장 장보고(?-846)가 안면도에 주둔했을 때 승언이라는 그의 부하가 사령관으로 있었다. 승언은 부인 미도와 금슬이 매우 좋았다. 어느날 승언이 장보고의 명을 받고 먼 전장으로 떠났다가 결국 돌아오지 못했고, 미도는 남편을 그리워하며 날마다 바위에 올라 기다리다가 결국 바위에서 죽고 말았다. 시간이 흐른 뒤 미도가 죽은 바위 옆에 또 다른 바위가 갑자기 생겨났고, 사람들은 두 바위를 묶어 ‘할미 할아비 바위’라고 불렀다고 한다.
